I believe that "gross" pixel count of over 18 million is also higher than the 1"-sensor AX Read the specs and you will see the camera does not have a megapixel sensor. At the end of the day it does not matter why the Ax33 does not resolve as well as other Sony camcorders, though it is useful to know that turning off active mode improves video quality.

There are several potential explanations for softer images but no convincing evidence to me that it can only be the lens to blame. The lens used in the AX 33 may be the limiting factor, but I personally doubt akpen. My point here is that Sony could put optics on a camcorder even if the zoom dound and resolution were well beyond the AX 33's, and still achieve excellent performance and very low cost. My point that I wanted to make with this xx33 is that I think most people who have made reviews of the Ax33 up to this point have been making the reviews with "active stabilization" turned on and those people have not realized that active stabilization uses cropping in order to stabilize.
